Tween 80

Polysorbate 80, also known as Tween-80, is a non-ionic surfactant and emulsifier with the chemical formula C24H44O6 (C2H4O) n. Easily soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, vegetable oil, ethyl acetate, methanol, toluene, insoluble in mineral oil. It becomes gelatinous at low temperature and recovers after being heated. It smells very bad and tastes slightly bitter

Application:

 

Tween 80 can be used as a wetting agent, emulsifier, lubricant, dispersant, etc. It can also be used as a component of cotton fiber and viscose cord stretching agent, and also used in some eye drops. In the food industry, it can prevent splashing, slow down aging and improve taste, and is often used as an ice cream emulsifier. It is also used as emulsifier in the production of polyurethane foam. In the laboratory, it can be used as a stationary liquid for gas chromatography to separate alcohols, ketones, esters, hydrocarbon compounds and fatty acids.
